Luis

Keeper of the Sea’s Spirit

Luis has been captivated by art since childhood. Born in Mexico City and now living in Puerto Vallarta, he brings together his formal training in graphic design with a lifelong passion for vibrant colors, organic shapes, and Mexican culture. Luis' journey began when he was very young with sketchpads and colored pencils gifted by his mother, and over his life evolved just like his art into a full artistic practice that spans painting, woodwork, Huichol-inspired yarn mandalas, and most recently sculpted and hand-painted gypsum art.

Each turtle he creates is inspired by the coastal beauty of Vallarta and the spiritual symbolism of the sea turtle in Mexican tradition—representing good fortune, longevity, and wisdom. For Luis, the turtle is also deeply personal, a symbol of resilience and softness, and of life’s delicate yet determined journey. Made using gypsum & resin, he pours each mold by hand, allowing it to set with precision before beginning the delicate process of painting, dot by dot, stoke by stroke. He uses high-quality Mexican acrylics and draws inspiration from nature, emotion, and intuition. Each layer is carefully considered, and every turtle is painted uniquely—there is no mass production here. The final piece is sealed and framed to preserve its fragility while honoring its spirit, like a tiny treasure meant to bring joy and intention into someone’s home.

Luis’ work is filled with heart. He creates not just for expression, but to share emotion and good energy. His greatest hope? That those who take home his turtles feel the love and care poured into every detail—and that they cherish them as symbols of beauty, meaning, and life’s quiet strength.
