Does your shampoo spark joy?

Does your shampoo spark joy?

Pick up a typical bottle of shampoo or conditioner at the store, and you'll notice how watery it feels. That's because most liquid shampoos are 70 to 80% water. More water means diluted formulas, preservatives to keep them shelf-stable, and less of the nourishing ingredients your hair actually needs.

Solid shampoo and conditioner bars are different. They're super concentrated: almost every gram goes toward cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting your hair. One bar can last as long as two or three bottles of liquid product, saving waste, space, and money.

And then there's the ingredient list. Store brands often rely on harsh sulfates, parabens, silicones, and synthetic fragrances. Organizations like the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and other health authorities have flagged these ingredients because they can irritate the scalp, disrupt hormones, or linger in waterways. In Mexico, COFEPRIS regulates cosmetics, but many ingredients restricted elsewhere are still allowed here, so "safe to sell" doesn't always mean "best for you."

"Instead of fillers, every ingredient has a purpose: to nourish, protect, and balance."

What Our Ingredients Do for You

Natural solid shampoo bar with honey and rosemary by Petit Joys

Here's what makes a concentrated bar so different and so effective:

Agua destilada (distilled water) — A pure base that ensures a clean, gentle formula without impurities.

Miel (honey) — Naturally humectant, it attracts and locks in moisture, leaving hair soft and shiny.

Aceite de coco (coconut oil) — Deeply nourishing, it helps reduce protein loss in hair and keeps strands strong.

Aceite de jojoba (jojoba oil) — Balances scalp oils and provides lightweight hydration that doesn't weigh hair down.

Manteca de karíté (shea butter) — Rich in vitamins and fatty acids that smooth, condition, and protect against dryness.

Vitamina E (vitamin E) — A natural antioxidant that supports scalp health and helps repair damage.

Aceite esencial de romero (rosemary essential oil) — Traditionally used to stimulate circulation to the scalp and promote healthy hair growth.

Cera de arroz (rice wax) (in the conditioner) — Adds smoothness and shine while helping to detangle and protect.

What Inspired Us

Zero-waste solid conditioner bar from Petit Joys Puerto Vallarta

Learning about how diluted and chemical-heavy most store shampoos are inspired us to take another path. At Petit Joys, we created our shampoo and conditioner bars with carefully chosen natural ingredients and concentrated formulas, so you can enjoy healthy hair, a cleaner planet, and a little joy in every wash.

"Shampooing and conditioning can be more than routine. As the warm water flows and the rosemary aroma rises, it's a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and be fully present in the moment."
